1. Who is your favorite author and why?

Presently Chloe Neill because I’m in love with the Chicagoland Vampires series – ok, so I’m in love with Darth Sullivan (Ethan, the main male character and the protagonist’s beau). I love the world Chloe Neill’s created, I love the interaction between Merit and Ethan, I love Merit’s defiance and antagonistic attitude and Ethan’s endeavours to teach her respect. The dynamics in the series are just fantastic, with tensions and romance, battles and trials and alliances and the series is just a really good read.

2. Can we expect any more books from you in the future?

Certainly, Antithesis, Book Three will be out later in 2014.

3. Have you started another book yet?

I’ve started a few, I really need to pick one to focus on!

4. Where do you see yourself in five years?

Hopefully still writing and still designing.

5. What are your current writing projects now?

A novella that sits alongside The Vampire Alliance Series, the prequel set in Rome, a spin off series that comes after The Vampire Alliance series with side characters as the main characters and an entirely unrelated paranormal romance. I really need to pick one to focus on but I have too many ideas in my head at the moment.

6. Are you reading any interesting books at the moment?

Not, not at the moment. I’m too busy with book launches however I can’t wait for the next instalment of the Chicagoland Vampires series to come out in February.

7. When you wish to end your career, stop writing, and look back on your life, what thoughts would you like to have?

Knowing that someone, somewhere read my work, lost themselves in it and enjoyed my writing is enough for me.

1. What books did you love growing up?

I loved From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konigsburg. I thought it would be amazing to get locked up in a museum overnight. I also loved Shel Silverstein, Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary.

2. Who is your favorite author?

I love David Sedaris. He continually amazes me. I also love Junot Diaz, Anne Lamott, Michael Chabon and Graham Greene.

3. What book should everybody read at least once?

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon. It is just so good. One of my all-time favorite books.

4. Have you always enjoyed writing?

I have always enjoyed writing. When I was a kid, I would create newspapers for fun. Any opportunity to write at school – contests or whatever – I did them all. I think it is pretty accurate to say I have been writing stories since I've been able to put letters into words.

5. If you could leave your readers with one bit of wisdom, what would you want it to be?

Don't fight your instincts.

6. What are your current writing projects now?

I am working on my second book and my first novel. It will tell the story of a young woman navigating life and love through food culture. I want to write smart, funny and sexy stories for women like myself and my friends.

7. Can we expect any more books from you in the future?

Chapter Three

1) Tell us a bit about your family.

I'm a newly remarried father of 2, with 2 stepkids. I met my current wife (wife #2) on Match.com, believe it or not, and the entire experience is in my new book, "Perhaps I've Said Too Much." Please note that Susan Boyle played a huge part in it.

Also, all children are free to a good home, and we are pretty flexible on the 'good' part.

2) What scares you the most?

Spiders.

3) What makes you happiest?

Dead spiders.

Also, my kids make me happy. Most of the time. Especially when they kill spiders for me.

4) What’s your greatest character strength?

I think my ability to make people laugh during most any situation. I LOVE making people laugh and I've been told that I'm pretty good at it.

5) What’s your weakest character trait?

Patience. I'm completely impatient. Especially when it comes to small children and waiting in line for anything. This gets way worse when I'm waiting in line with small children.

6) Why do you write?

I love writing. Writing is a way to express what you sometimes can't say out loud which is good for me because I'm really inappropriate.

7) Have you always enjoyed writing?

I have. When I was in middle school I used to write stories for English class. My classmates always loved to hear them and I realized that I actually had a gift for storytelling. This was good because I certainly wasn't getting chicks because I was fat and had my hair parted to the side.

What motivates you to write?

I absolutely love the writing process. Writing is cathartic, creative, and expressive. I love to write about deeply rooted passions and life-changing experiences. I also love to use writing as a way to celebrate nature and compliment my skills in photography.

What writing are you most proud of?

I am most proud of my inspirational short stories published by Chicken Soup for the Soul. Having always been a fan of those books, I consider it a great honor to have my own works published by them. Knowing my story may inspire someone else is a real gift.

What are you most proud of in your personal life?

I’m most proud of overcoming my personal battle with low self-esteem and my ability to help others build confidence in an effort to experience greater personal success. In building confidence I found the courage to write and submit my first work for publication. In building confidence I found the courage to help others do the same.

What books did you love growing up?

I loved Nancy Drew mystery books and couldn’t wait for the summer months when I could spend my vacation reading. To this day, I still love mysteries – film and print.

Who is your favorite author?

My favorite author is Joyce Meyer. Her inspirational non-fiction books are encouraging and life-changing. I would love to write transformational books like hers.

What book genre of books do you adore?

I love poetry of all kinds. I like poems that are simple and easy to read. I like words that rhyme. I like verses that can dance on a melody. I like stories that swim with colorful imagery. I like the whimsical and capricious. Poetry is good for the spirit; it lifts me up and stimulates my creative juices.

How did you develop your writing?

Writing is an art form that requires constant development. As a result, I make it a priority to write daily, attend writing conferences each year, and take writing courses and workshops whenever possible. I also make it a priority to read daily; I believe the best writers are also avid readers. But the journey began when I sat down to write my first short story, nearly ten years ago.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

My inspiration is God-given. My heart’s desire is to put pen to paper and share my experience, strength, and hope with others in an effort to offer an encouraging word and help improve someone else’s life.

What is hardest – getting published, writing or marketing?

For most writers, the hardest part is marketing. That’s simply because most writers struggle with self-promotion and don’t invest in learning the marketing-side of the business. I find marketing the easiest because my professional background includes sales, strategy and planning, and marketing. So, for me, the hardest part is the writing.

What marketing works for you?

I manage most of my own marketing and have the greatest success using social media, video, and article marketing to drive traffic to my website, build web-page stickiness, and convert browsers to buyers. Also, I have learned the value of strong copywriting in all of my marketing efforts. Strong copy-writing and using words that sell are key in eliciting a response from my readers; this is what makes them buy.

When I was in the fourth grade the teacher used to give me 20 minutes twice a week to tell a story to the class – and I made the stories up. I was also lead guitarist in a highly successful Rock band for years, and I wrote all of our original music.

1. Why do you write?
I write just for the fun of it. It’s the way I clarify my own thinking. When I need to articulate something or work through an obstacle or issue in my life, the quickest route is to write about it. Writing for me is kind of like the “pensieve” in Harry Potter – it gets it out of my head so I can examine it.

2. Have you always enjoyed writing?
Yes, always. It’s the most natural outlet of expression for me. If I have something important to say, I write it and refine it in my head – I do this so instinctively that actually writing stuff is nothing more than putting my thoughts down on paper.

3. What motivates you to write?
In the past it has been more a compulsion than anything else. I love the written word and writing is just a completely satisfying activity for me. Like singing. I’m happy while in the thick of it, I’m happy when it’s done – there is no downside :) With the Core of Steel series, I am very motivated because I think there is a lot of misinformation out there that leads people to think that it is difficult and well-nigh impossible to live a frictionless life and I want to break down those myths.

4. What writing are you most proud of? (Add a link if you like)
My most recent book, Unconform, which has just been released. It is the book I didn’t know I had to write! It slowly dawned on me after Going Home had been out for a while, that I had grossly underestimated the power of conformity in keeping people locked into where they are in their lives. So writing Unconform settled a great many things for me in my own head and brought me back to first principles about why I started my website (www.truthredux.com) in the first place.

5. What books did you love growing up?
A huge variety. P.G. Wodehouse, Georgette Heyer, James Herriot, Gerard Durrell, Enid Blyton, the classics, Greek mythology, Grimms Fairytales. In short, I read whatever I could get my hands on and still do :)

6. Who is your favorite author?
I really couldn’t say I had one favourite. My answer would be: all of the above and several more. These are the people I could read over and over again and never get tired of their writing. And in fact, I laugh just as uproariously and helplessly as I did reading them the first time. Judging by my book collection, if I had to pick one, it would be Georgette Heyer. Her writing is simply exquisite. Witty and clear with superb story lines. I never tire of reading her.

7. What book genre of books do you adore?
Pretty much all of them. If a book is well written I will read it regardless of genre. I’ve just become a HUGE fan of steam punk. It combines the two genres I like best: historical and fantasy. Brilliant!

Very important: Don't stop at reading this book and being philosophically inspired! It is meant to be of practical help - so do the exercises, think and plan for the elements in each ring and you will create a shift within yourself and consequently in your life.

Have you ever wondered - what am I doing with my life?

This is many of us. We huddle within ourselves, lost, lonely and afraid.

We go through school and college seeking answers and direction.

We go to work seeking financial security and satisfaction.

We look to relationships and family for fulfillment and acceptance.

As for ourselves. We are unsure if we are good - have we made the right choices, are we deserving of rewards and blessings. Or are we bad - have we been born under a cloud, or taken many wrong turns and are paying for it.

Is our glass half full or half empty??

Amidst all the questions and confusion, we gamely plough on. If it all gets too much, we self medicate with tv, food, shopping, pills, drugs maybe even people.

We strive to accumulate property, possessions, wealth and more and more, looking to external factors for security and identity.

We don't know what we are looking for, whether we've found it or where to stop.

And so life remains an unsolvable puzzle. And we remain - lost.

7 Questions with #Fantasy #Author Najeev Raj Nadarajah @NRNadarajah #AmReading

1.    Tell us a bit about your family. 

My family came to Canada during winter of 1989. I was four years old and an only child then. Three years later, we became a family of four when my mother gave birth to an awkward little boy. That boy, I was told, was my brother. We grew up in a bicultural environment, where my brother and I were made to follow Tamil cultural practices and were only allowed to speak in Tamil at home. Until this day, we still hold true to our heritage, or we try, at least. However, my brother and I began speaking English with one another sometime in the late 90s and haven’t switched back since. Yes, it annoys our mother, but I don’t think she minds as long as we continue to be as close as we are.

2.     How do you work through self-doubts and fear? 

I open up my laptop and begin writing. I find that self-doubts and fear only tend to creep into one’s mind when they’re giving it the time needed to think and dwell on weaknesses that might not even be there to begin with. Why give your mind that much time to create unnecessary problems for itself? That’s why whenever I feel like bad thoughts are creeping into my mind, I push it aside and get straight to work.

3.     What scares you the most? 

Public speaking makes me nervous. Losing loved ones worries me. Both are common amongst most people. As for fear. I can confidently say I have no fears. And if I do have one, I’m not aware of it, because I’ve yet to find out what that fear is.

4.     What makes you happiest? 

I’m a very simple guy and it doesn’t take much to get me happy or to keep me happy. Now, if you’d like to know what would make me ‘happiest’, I’d have to go with my career as a writer taking off. Either that, or a world-class sushi buffet.

5.     Why do you write? 

I write because I love telling stories, and because I don’t like repeating myself (insert chuckle here).

6.     Have you always enjoyed writing?

Perhaps up until my preteen years, I wasn’t overly fond of writing. I loved telling stories, but I hated writing them down when my teachers insisted that I do so as a journal entry or a short story.

I didn’t quite have the patience for it then.

7.     What motivates you to write? 

I always finish what I start, both for my sake, as well as those who’re involved. Whenever I run low on motivation, I tell myself that somewhere out there, someone’s waiting for me to finish writing my next book and I can’t disappoint them. I then throw on my film score soundtracks and force myself to put down a few words. During the first few minutes, my brain usually curses me for pushing it to wake up. But I keep pushing at it, greasing the wheels to get my train of thought rolling. Needless to say, once I do, my brain usually thanks me for having pushed it to start working.
