Author Interview – Stacy Verdick Case

What’s your weakest character trait?

I am soooo lazy. I could have written 50 more books in all the time I’ve wasted surfing the internet, playing Spelltower, or having marathon movie weekends where I never get out of my jammies.  It makes me sad when I think of all the things I have not accomplished but could have if I’d just got up to do it.

Why do you write?

I can’t not write. I’ve tried but I can’t. I’ve been writing stories since I was a kid. Other children had favorite dolls or security blankets. I had a red notebook (always red) and a pencil. For me I think it’s a way of understanding the world around me. There is so many things that happen that I cannot fathom, so I need to write it out. A notebook is a lot less expensive than a therapist.

Have you always enjoyed writing?

Yes, I love writing. It’s everything that comes after that I struggle with. The editing, marketing, etc. feels like work to me. I just want to move the next story that it rattling around in my head but I can’t.

What motivates you to write?

The excitement of a new story.
What writing are you most proud of? (Add a link if you like)

I wrote a piece about my Mom on my blog that got great response and my mom loved it. She is the person who taught me to read when teachers had given up on me and now she had Macular Degeneration and struggles to read now. It was a very personal story that I never thought I’d share because I’m intensely private.  http://sostacythought.wordpress.com/2011/08/13/if-it-wasn%E2%80%99t-for-my-mom-i-wouldn%E2%80%99t-be-a-writer-now/

What are you most proud of in your personal life?

My family. My husband is an amazing person and so is our little girl. Without them I would be a bitter old shut-in.

What books did you love growing up?

So many. I can’t wait to read the Boxcar Children with my little girl. Also the Little House on the Prairie books. But my all time favorite book was Pipi Longstockings. I read it so much that my family started to call me Pipi. My Dad still calls me Pip.

Who is your favorite author?

Stephen King has to be at the top. I also love Anne George, Jodi Picoult, and of course Agatha Christie.
