Author Interview – Richard Flores IV

Tell us a bit about your family. I come from a family of five: Mom, Dad, a younger brother and a younger sister.  I have a lovely wife, Amy who I have been married to for nine years this year.  We have three boys whose ages are seven, five, and three.
What is your favorite quality about yourself? I think I would have to choose my humor has my favorite quality, though my god like physique might be a close second.  My humor can be crass, sarcastic, fun loving, and sometimes slapstick.  Humor has got me through some of my toughest times in life. And hopefully it has helped a few others laugh off a bad moment.
What is your least favorite quality about yourself? All kidding aside my body and my low self-esteem is my least favorite quality.  I’ve always considered myself awkward and generally unattractive.  As I’ve aged and added body weight it has only become worse.  Though as I have aged I care a little less what people think of me.  Though I think it is in our (human) nature to want to be accepted.
What is your favorite quote, by whom, and why? I have a few, here is one:
“Progress isn’t made by early risers.  It’s made by lazy men trying to find easier ways to do something.” – Robert Heinlein
I love this one because if this isn’t the truth I don’t know what is.  It speaks to the truth of invention and progress.  Are we not all looking for an easier way to do things?  I’m willing to admit I am lazy, and love the conveniences of a dishwasher, clothes washer, and cell phone.
What are you most proud of accomplishing so far in your life? Without a doubt fatherhood is my proudest accomplishment.  There is something that changes in you when you become a father.  The world looks different.  You see things in your life differently.  Suddenly the brand new car doesn’t seem so important.  Besides there are few accomplishments in life that can continue to give you a feeling of pride and success like being a father can.  Each time my children accomplish something new in their lives, so do I.  It really is the best thing life has to offer.
What is your favorite color? Green.  No reason for it.  It just has always been that way.
What is your favorite food? I love Pizza.  But don’t put pineapple and ham on it.  That isn’t right.  Stick with red sauce and the usual toppings.

Heinlein was a boss!

Thanks for interviewing Richard here, even if he doesn't believe that ham and pineapple have a place on pizza.
